For children in Panama, Portuguese can feel both familiar and new. Spanish and Portuguese share many similarities, so Spanish-speaking children may recognise words and understand written Portuguese relatively quickly.
At the same time, pronunciation and everyday expressions can be quite different, making it important to learn how Portuguese is actually spoken.
At Lingua Learn Panama, our Portuguese for kids programme focuses mainly on Brazilian Portuguese, helping learners aged 6 to 16 build communication skills while discovering Brazilian language and culture.
The similarities between Spanish and Portuguese can give children a useful starting point, but they can also lead to pronunciation mistakes. A child who sees a Portuguese word that looks familiar may naturally pronounce it according to Spanish rules.

These topics give children meaningful contexts for using new vocabulary while helping them discover a culture beyond the language itself.
Lingua Learn follows the CEFR framework from A1 through B2, giving students a structured path as their abilities develop. Children begin with greetings, self-introduction, family, numbers, and other familiar topics.
As they progress, they can move into daily routines, hobbies, school subjects, past events, opinions, and future plans. Each stage builds on previously learned language while giving students opportunities to communicate at an increasingly independent level.
Learning Brazilian Portuguese does not require a child to know where they will study, travel, or work in the future. It gives them another language through which they can communicate and another culture they can understand more directly.
